Note: The Friends of the Charles Santore Library is no longer in existence; instead, BVNA facilitates engagement and garners support, promotes the Library’s services to the community, refers additional community programming to library leadership, and advocates on behalf of the Charles Santore Library to the city to ensure timely facility improvements are made and functional building conditions are maintained.

The Charles Santore Library is a branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia that serves the South Philadelphia communities of Bella Vista, Queen Village, and Hawthorne.

The Library has a large collection of adult, young adult, and children’s books, books on tape, DVDs, videos, magazines, and CDs as well as free Internet and computer access.

Ongoing Library programs include a Pre-School Story Time (for children ages five and younger accompanied by an adult) and a PJs-allowed Bedtime Story Time (For children ages six and younger accompanied by an adult). Other Library programming has included Smoking Cessation workshops, GED and ESL classes, knitting, Tai Chi and Family Fun events.

To volunteer, contact BVNA.  The current volunteer needs are mostly for tree tenders around the library perimeter. BVNA can connect anyone interested.
